Moslem Festivals
All Moslem festivals, based on a lunar calendar, move backwards through the seasons, falling earlier according to the western calendar by eleven days each year.
The ninth Moslem month is Ramadhan, a month of fasting during daylight hours. Many Moslem restaurants, although not tourist establishments, shut down during the day so it can be hard to get a meal, especially in central and eastern parts of Lombok, you should not eat, drink or smoke in public at this time.
Idul Fitri, also called Hari Raya or Lebaran, the first day of the tenth month of the Moslem calendar, marks the end of Ramadhan.
Idul Adha, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son; Prophet Ishmael at God’s command and is marked by the animal sacrifice.
The Moslem New Year, the first day of the month of Muharram and it is followed by Maulud Nabi Muhammad SAW, the celebration of the birthday of the prophet. Isra Mi’raj, celebrates Prophet Muhammad’s visit to Allah SWT and his return to earth with instruction for Shalat.
This is the origin of the Moslem injunction to pray five times a day.
Lombok Festivals

Bau Nyale, takes place annually in February or March and is celebrated in certain villages along the south coast when thousands of people flock to witness the first appearance of the sea worms. Lebaran Topat, it is held in the seven days after Lebaran / Idul Fitri. Lebaran Topat as the tradition to celebrate Lebaran, pray for happiness and prosperity in the mosque, family grave yard and recreation along the coast line by bringing traditional food “Topat (Rice Cake)” with variety of side dishes including vegetable. Lebaran Topat, when Sasak people visit family graves. Harvest Festival is celebrated by Balinese Hindus in March / April at Gunung Pengsong, when they hive thanks for the harvest by the ritual slaughter of a buffalo. Senggigi Festival is a week of cultural events to promoteLombok tourism. it is held on middle of July in Senggigi

all the colour of Lombok’s Art and Culture – in example; Gendang Beleq and Stick
Fighting performances – are brought together in one central location so as
to easily experienced by all. Domestic and overseas guests are invited to join
this events. Perang Topat is
performed at Lingsar Park , Lingsar
Temple by both Hindus and
Sasaks. Perang Topat is a ritual ceremony which is performed as an expression
of gratitude to God for his blessing if fertile soil plentiful agricultural
produce.
